Cad Goddeu

Based on the medieval Welsh poem "Cad Goddeu - The Battle Of The Trees" from the Book of Taliesin

You’ve been a fool to steal
From the Lord of Annwn
He won’t ignore your foolishness

He will go to war
To bring us down is what he swore
We have to be ingenious

I command you to walk
And fight at our side
March ahead of me
And attack with all your might

In the war of the trees
Oak and willow fight
In the war of the trees
For Gwydyons life
Privets versus giants
Blood and resin spill
When the trees are raised to life

The war went on all night
With still no end in sight
We need to settle this differently

We shall choose the game
Of guessing our companion’s name
The right guess leads to victory

I command you to walk
And fight at our side
March ahead of me
And attack with all your might

In the war of the trees
Oak and willow fight
In the war of the trees
For Gwydyons life
Privets versus giants
Blood and resin spill
When the trees are raised to life

Your companion bears
An alder branch’s bloom
He’s revealed himself
That will be your doom
Cause this symbol, I know
Belongs to the blessed crow
This giants name is …

In the war of the trees
Oak and willow fight
In the war of the trees
For Gwydyons life
Privets versus giants
Blood and resin spill
When the trees are raised to life

Bran is thy name
And victory shall be mine
